NORTHCREST AS IT looked in 1960 showing the neighborhood school at the corner of North Joliet and South Circle Drive, fronting the property that has become Children’s Memorial Park. A transfer of ownership of the park from the city to the Island Park District is in the works. It will require an environmental site assessment that will consider past uses of the property to determine if there is a possibility of soil contamination.

CLOSING A CHAPTER — Janet Johnston is preparing to retire from her 30-year career at Reed-Custer High School at the end of the school year, where she served as a teacher for 17 years and a librarian for the last 13 years. She has also been coordinating homecoming week at the high school for 28 years.
