Last time we read of the Braidwood riot of 1880 as printed in the Joliet Weekly Sun, and the Joliet Republican. Today we look at the same story, this time from a more local point of view, that of the Wilmington Advocate, as reported by their Braidwood correspondent in response to the Joliet version.
We read on May 7, 1880 in the Advocate:
“We wish to say that most scandalous of lies of the origin of this dastardly outrage have been published in the Braidwood Republican on Monday, as a result of an interview with one G. S. Bailey, colored, of Braidwood.
