Coalers travel to Canton Friday

The Coalers will make the two-hour trek to Canton to face the Little Giants Friday. The two teams faced off last year in a 41-0 shutout for Coal City, part of a 1-8 season for Canton.
They lost to Eureka 34-8 last week, but showed great improvement according to Loughran.
"They have a new coach so it's a little different than what we saw last year. They return five starters on defense and three on offense."

New court bodes well for Lady Coalers

Coal City hosted Bradley Bourbonnais and showed excitement on their newly finished tennis courts, dispatching BBHS 5-0.
Rebecca Hall led the charge at #1 singles, winning a close set in a first set tie breaker, 7-3, before finding her rhythm and closing out the second set 6-3.
At #2 singles, Kyla Kohler won by default after her opponent was unable to compete.

CC kickers shutout Bishop McNamara

Coal City defeated Bishop Mac 9-0 in Coal City Thursday evening, breaking in the new turf field.
Scoring for Coal City were Dane Noffsinger (2), Dylan Fatlan (2), Luke Munsterman (2), Adrian Dames, Kaleb Reinert and Carter Hollis.
Assists came from Creed Macaluso (2), Dane Noffsinger, Luke Munsterman, and Evan Greggain.
Coal City will travel to Momence today (Wednesday) before hosting Herscher for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday.
JV COALERS
The JV Coalers were victorious on Aug. 27 during the season opener, beating Herscher 3-1.

CC golfers win over Wilmington

The Coal City boys golf team won the varsity and junior varsity rounds against Wilmington last week at Highpoint Golf Course in Essex.
The Coalers scored a 179 to the hosting Wildcat’s 201.
Jerry Carlson was medalist of the match with a low 41 while Culan Lindemuth carded a 44, Jaxon Duke a 46 and Frankie Ponio a 48. Turning in a 52 was Trevor Perino and 53 for Griffin Winke.

Miners undo Bobcats at almost all levels

The Coal City Miners youth football team almost had a total teams sweep for the second week in a row. They won three of four games played Saturday against Wilmington after sweeping the Jr. Comets the week before.
The Superlight Miners fell to the Bobcats, 13-0. On offense, the Miners played well, but just fell short of making it in the endzone. The line did what was expected and plays were ran as planned. Offense will make some adjustments this week and be ready for next week.

Coal City athletes must register by Aug. 12

Coaler athletes planning to participate in a fall sport at Coal City High School-cheerleading, boys soccer, football, girls tennis, golf or volleyball-must register prior to the first day of practices on Aug. 12.

RC Boys basketball camp starts Monday

There is still time to join in the summer boys basketball camp at Reed-Custer Elementary School which starts on Monday.
RCHS head coach Tyler Schoonover said walk-ins are welcome on July 15 when future Comets will be split into three different sessions.
The camp for boys in first and second grades will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., followed by third-fifth grade from 9:30 to 10:45; and sixth-eighth graders from 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
The camp will run from Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18.

WHS baseball team brings home state trophy

WHS baseball players were bumped in their quest to become Class 2A state champions on Friday, but they still impressed with a third place state finish in Peoria.
The Wildcats shutout Sterling Newman Catholic 4-0 on Saturday to erase a 19-year absence of bringing home a state trophy, finishing the season with a 28-2 record including a 25-game win streak and new school records in pitching.
This is the fourth state trophy in baseball for WHS. Wildcats won two state championships in 2003 and 2005; and a third in 2004.

Wildcats to play for sectional title

Wilmington junior Kyle Farrell pitched an outstanding game Wednesday, striking out 14 batters and going all seven innings in the Beecher Sectional semifinal to defeat Chicago Christian 5-3.

The Wildcats grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first but a hit, walks and an error in the third allowed Christian to take a 3-2 lead. 

Farrell got back to business though, holding the Knights scoreless the rest of the way while limiting them to just three hits. against the 14 Ks. Almost 75% of the 110 pitches Farrell threw on Wednesday was a strike.

WMS 8th grade track finishes 2nd in state

The WMS track and field team took eight individuals to the state championships at the Eastside Centre stadium in East Peoria on May 17th-18th.
These athletes included Hunter Kaitschuck for the 8th grade boys High Jump, Shot Put and Hurdles. Madisen Van Duyne for 8th grade girls Hurdles, Aubree Jandura in 8th grade girls Long Jump and the 4X200 relay with 7th grader Payton Govero, 8th grader McKenna Van Tilburg, 7th grader Kelsie Roeder and alternates 7th grader Lilly Govero and 8th grader Amara Bown. To say they did great is truly an understatement.
