Standing in their way is the ninth-seeded DePaul Prep Rams (9-3) out of the Chicago Catholic League/East Suburban Catholic Conference (Purple).
They had lost two in a row entering the playoffs before hitting a new gear in the postseason, giving up just 35 points combined while scoring 112.
"DePaul has had a great season. They're big, fast and run a spread, tempo offense. We're going to have our hands full defensively," said Loughran.

Coalers set to 'duke' it out with Dixon

One team has averaged 48.2 points per game while allowing just 10.1. The other has averaged 42.2 while giving up just 9.1.
Sounds like quite the recipe for a quarterfinal clash.
The 10-1 Dixon Dukes will head to Coal City for Saturday's Class 4A battle against the 9-2 Coalers at 1 p.m.
Dixon plays in the very tough Big Northern conference where six of the 10 teams made the playoffs.
The Dukes had little trouble with Chicago Ag in the second round, scoring at least 50 points for the sixth time in 11 games (51-6).

Wilmington's volleyball team won Tuesday's semi-final sectional contest over Chicago University, advancing to Thursday's sectional championship match against Chicago Christian (Palos Heights).

The Lady Wildcats (#1 seed) were fired up, grabbing the lead early in both games to win the match 25-21, 25-15. Following their win was Chicago Christian (Palos Heights) the #4 seed) who beat Bishop McNamara 25-20, 26-28, 25-15.

Two local teams to play for volleyball regional championships

The volleyball seasons for Coal City and Wilmington continued Tuesday night with the Lady Coalers and Lady Wildcats both winning in the semi-final round of their own regionals.

At Coal City, the Lady Coalers advanced to the championship match on Thursday at 6 p.m. after beating Spring Valley in two quick sets, 25-16, 25-20. The Lady Coalers will now host Seneca, a 25-15, 25-19 winner over Sandwich, to decide the championship on Thursday. The winner of the Coal City Regional will play in the Bureau Valley-Manulis Sectional on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

Lady ‘Cat champs ready for the playoffs

The Lady Cats finished their regular season by defeating Evergreen Park at all three levels.
Varsity squad won 29-27, 11-25, 25-19. As a team, they had 26 kills with Rachel Smith and Molly Southall leading the way with 6 each. Maggie Lindsey chipped in with 5, while Taylor Stefancic had 4. Smith also had 12 digs, 2 blocks, 2 assists and an ace.
Southall had 16 digs and 14 assists. Lindsey had 3 blocks and 2 digs. Libero Skylar Knight had 16 digs and 3 aces.

Coaler soccer team to play for regional championship

The Coal City soccer team will play for the regional championship on Tuesday at home after defeating Herscher 5-1 in the opening round on Saturday.
Dane Noffsinger scored three goals to lead the Coalers who now faces Manteno on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Panthers edged Peotone Saturday 1-0.

Record holders to face off during Coalers vs. Cats

Dark green, white and gold. Purple and white. Babe's Tap vs Hayden's Crossing, Landin Benson vs Kyle Farrell.
The latter both recently became their respective school's all-time leading rusher and Friday is the final time the two will square off on the gridiron.
Wilmington has won 19 straight games and is averaging 45.3 points per game while allowing only 10.2.
Coal City has won five straight and is also averaging 45.3 ppg while allowing 9.3.

WHS to host Coal City for Volley for a cure

The WHS Lady Cat Volleyball Team will host the Coal City Coalers for the annual Volley for a Cure game on Thursday, Oct. 10, with doors opening at 4 p.m. to raise funds for Megan's Mission Foundation.
The event will be held at 209 Wildcat Ct, Wilmington. Games will begin at 5 p.m. for the freshmen teams, 6 p.m. for the JV team. Honoree presentation will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m., with a guest appearance from Kent and Deb Bugg, and a special video tribute to Megan Bugg.

Miner overpower the Indians

Coal City Miners wrapped up the regular season on Sunday by defeating Sandwich at all four levels.
The Miners Superlights won 21-0 with some collective work on offense by quarterbacks Leo Rodriguez, Cooper Lardi and Cole Coleman. Lardi scored 2 touchdowns, one a 22-yard run and the other on a 65-yard kickoff return. Coleman added a touchdown on a 55-yard run.

GSWB baseball team wins regional championship

The Gardner-South Wilmington Braceville A baseball team won the Regional Championship over Grant Park in five innings, 12-2.
The Lions claim their 2nd straight regional championship and advanced to Monday’s Sectional Championship against St. Anne sporting an 18-9 record.
Hosting their own regional, Lions south-paw Grady Phillips was the starting pitcher for GSWB. Phillips held the Dragons in his 2 innings of work allowing 2 walks and 2 strikeouts on 0 hits.
