Alex Murphy

ELWOOD—Alex “Murph” Murphy, 33, of Elwood, formerly of Braidwood, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2021 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Jan. 8, 1988 in Joliet, Alex Michael was the son of Michael Murphy and Julieann Sanders-Stark. He was raised and educated in Braidwood and attended Reed-Custer schools. He was employed by Cutting Edge Lawn to Landscaping in Coal City, and in his free time enjoyed playing poker and going night fishing. Alex loved spending time with his friends and cherished those close relationships that he made along the way.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Julieann and Mark Stark; his father, Michael Murphy; his maternal grandparents, Kathy and Charles Sanders and his paternal grandparents, William T. and Christine Lawler; his daughter, McKenna Hambrick-Murphy; three sisters: Kiley Murphy, Lindsay (Kyle) Palmer and Katelyn Stark; one half-sister, Cheyenne; his niece and nephew, Khloe Murphy and Raynen Palmer; and his lifelong friend, John Duering, who was like a brother.
Alex was preceded in death by a half-sister, Lauren.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 from 2 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 4 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd., in Wilmington. Face masks and measures of social distancing will be in order, and the funeral home staff will assist the family to maintain current mandates.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral services.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Alex’s memory to the family for their distribution.
