Anthony L. Altiery

WILMINGTON—Anthony L. Altiery, “Tony,” 50, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly, Oct. 1, 2018 at his home.
Born Oct. 8, 1967 in Joliet, Anthony Leroy was a son of John Thomas and Barbara Jean (Schmitz) Altiery. He was raised in Joliet, attended Joliet East, and graduated from Joliet West High School. Following graduation, Tony went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Illinois State University before entering into the United States Army. While in the service, he served in Germany during the Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm. Upon his honorable discharge, Tony went to work for “D” Construction as a laborer for more than 15 years, and was currently employed with Schneider Warehouse in Elwood.
In his free time, Tony took pleasure in cooking, reading and playing video games. He enjoyed family and especially loved spending time with his niece and nephews.
He was a member of the Wilmington Moose Lodge #241 and the Wilmington VFW Post 5422.
Survivors include his sister, Kimberly Brewington, of Coal City; brother, Robert (Lori) Ayers, of Braidwood; niece, Echo Brewington and nephews, Leonard Ausec and Randall Brewington, all of Bourbonnais, as well as aunts and uncles: Richard and Sandy Schmitz and Chuck and Ann Schmitz.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wayne Ayers and his grandparents, Leroy and Dorothy Schmitz.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd. in Wilmington on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Inurnment and full military honors will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Tony’s memory to the Wilmington VFW Post 5422.
