STAFF REPORT

Tuesday was the first day individuals seeking election to local boards—municipal, school and library—could begin circulating nominating petitions for the consolidated election in spring 2019.
Candidates have three months to collect the required signatures as completed statements of candidacy and nominating petitions must be filed by the close of business on Dec. 17.
Residents in the village of Carbon Hill will be asked to elect six of their neighbors to the village board. Three of the positions are for two-year unexpired terms and the other three will be for four-year terms. Candidates have to specify the term on their petition.
The village of Coal City also has an unexpired two-year term up for grabs next spring, as well as three full year terms.
Coal City residents will also be asked to cast a vote for mayor and village clerk.
Diamond residents will have one position on the ballot, a two-year unexpired term for finance commissioner.
Petitions for municipal board seats in all three towns can be obtained at the respective village halls during regular business hours.
Four seats on the Unit 1 Board of Education will be filled as a result of the April 2019 election. All four seats are for four-year terms. Nominating packets are available in the office of the Grundy County Clerk and Recorder, 111 W. Washington St., Morris.
Petitions are also available for three full six-year positions on the Coal City Public Library District Board of Trustees. Additionally, voters will be asked to elect a trustee to serve a four-year unexpired term and one to fill out a two-year unexpired term.
Petitions for library board can be obtained at the library, 85 N. Garfield  St., during regular business hours.
