Clarence S. Rachal

BRAIDWOOD—Clarence S. Rachal. “Snyder,” 78, of Braidwood, passed away Monday, June 29, 2026, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL.
Born July 16, 1947, in Cloutierville, LA, he was the son of Clarence and Ivy Rachal. He grew up in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Gordon Tech High School with the class of 1965. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps alongside his best friend, Bill, and served his country during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Clarence began his long career as a computer analyst with Ryerson Steel, where he met the love of his life, Raynella (née Zabelski). They were united in marriage on May 21, 1988. After marrying, they began their life together in Westmont before briefly living in Orland Park. They eventually made their home in Braidwood, where they raised their family. Over the years, Clarence also enjoyed taking on various side jobs to keep himself busy.
Clarence had a large collection of old “45 records” and looked forward to his Friday night music nights. He enjoyed music history and sharing his knowledge with others. He loved movies, coffee, pizza, and popcorn, and was known for using lines from his favorite television shows and movies in everyday conversation.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Raynella Rachal, of Braidwood; two daughters, Shelly (Dan) Estrada, of Chicago and Eva (Larry Housner) Rachal, of Wasilla, AK; one grandson, DJ Estrada; two brothers, Steve (Susan) Rachal, of Harrison, TN and Louis (Sandra) Rachal, of Roselle, IL; one sister, Ann Juska, of Warrenville, IL; one uncle, Lovance Beaudion; one aunt, Cecile Monette; one cousin, Ruth Rodriguez; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sr. and Ivy Rachal, and one sister, Evelina Thompson.
In accordance with Clarence's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at R. W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory in Braidwood.
