Coal City town cleanup scheduled for July 14

The village of Coal City and Waste Management have rescheduled the town’s annual spring cleanup for mid-July.
The clean-up was postponed due to service changes implemented in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The waste hauler has since resumed normal operations and has scheduled cleanup day for Tuesday, July14.
The cleanup will be curbside for Coal City residents and includes a white item, electronics and tire pickup.
Items not allowed are broken concrete, building materials, rocks, soil, household hazardous waste including, but not limited to, explosives, oils, solvents or other materials that may present a fire hazard, medical and biohazard wastes, construction and/or demolition material in excess of 32-gallons including drywall, lumber, roofing materials, fencing and posts, permanent swimming pools and/or material resulting from fires, floods or evictions.
Old paint will be included in this pickup if it is dried. To dry paint, add kitty litter to the paint containers. No liquid paint will be picked up.
As for tires, each household is limited to a maximum of four tires—no rims. Electronics such as computers, adding machines, monitors, telephones, and televisions will be accepted.
White items are anything that heats or cools—refrigerators, washers and dryers, air conditioners.
Per normal collection guidelines, yard waste must be placed in biodegradable paper bags or in the Waste Management yard waste containers—available to residents for an additional charge. Yard waste is unlimited and collected weekly. Limbs and brush should be cut into 4-foot sections and bundled with string or twine, each bundle weighing less than 50 pounds.
Waste Management has also resumed weekly bulk item pickup. One item is allowed weekly, but does not include appliances or electronics. If a large/heavy item is placed at the curb for pickup, residents are asked to contact the village hall at 815-634-8608 to report this item being placed for pickup. Village staff will then notify the waste hauler.
Questions regarding cleanup day, collection of white items or bulk item pickup should be directed to the village hall. Residents interesting in obtaining a yard waste container should also contact village hall to place a request.
