Coalers clinch second in Streator

    Coal City’s varsity boys soccer team took second place during the Streator Invitiational this past weekend, going 2-0-1 on the day, while placing second through a tie breaker.
    In the first game of the tournament, the Coalers picked up a 3-0 win over Sandwich.
    Alex Friddle paved the way with one goal and two assists, while Jason Wexelberg added a goal, and was assisted by Keegan Johnson.
    In the second game, Coal City wound up tying Streator, 0-0, as Hunter Bannon finished with eight saves in net.
    The third game saw the Coalers defeat Peoria Manuel, 4-0, thanks to three goals from Austin Planeta and one more from Austin Friddle.
    Friddle also added an assist in the game.
    Throughout the tournament, the Coalers (3-1-1) didn’t let up a goal, and have now accumulated four shutouts through five games.
    All-Tournament honores were given to Nolan O’Keefe, Alex Friddle, Austin Friddle, and Hunter Bannon for outstanding goalie in the tournament.
