The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 2,119 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois on Saturday, including 80 additional deaths. Those deaths include six in Will County: 1 female 60s, 1 male 60s, 1 male 70s, 1 female 80s, 2 males 80s.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 41,777 cases, including 1,874 deaths, in 96 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.

The Will County Health Department reported on Friday that there have been 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the 60481 zip code, and five cases in the 60408 zip code.

WIll County now has more than 2,000 positive COVID-19 cases county wide.

During the April 21 city council meeting, Wilmington Mayor Roy Strong said so far, instances of COVID-19 in Wilmington have been low.

“I think we have enough masks right now for the city,” Strong said. “We’ve had… cases, I know one has already gone back to work. So, that’s not too bad for our city.”

U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) threw his support behind the most recent Coronavirus Relief Bill. The Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act (HR 266), which was signed into law by President Donald J. Trump on Friday, provides additional funding for small business loans, health care providers, and COVID-19 testing.

“The Paycheck Protection Program has been a lifeline for millions of Americans across the country, saving jobs and providing much-needed relief. But the funds ran out well over two weeks ago and businesses are struggling to stay afloat, let alone pay their employees,” Kinzinger said. “The aid package also includes more funding for COVID-19 testing and our healthcare providers. These are things that make a real impact, and that’s what we should be focused on… The American people are facing real hardships right now, and in order to move forward as a nation, we must work together.”
