David W. Brown

COSTA RICA—David W. Brown, 70, of Costa Rica and formerly of Coal City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 at his home.
Born June 14, 1950 in Joliet, David William is a son of Phyllis (nee Nowman) Saben, of Coal City and the late Beryl W. Brown. He was raised in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 1968. Dave was a Veteran of the United States Army, and honorably served in Vietnam and Cambodia, where he earned both a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. He worked as a Teamster his entire career until he retired and relocated to Costa Rica.
In addition to being a member of the Teamsters Local, Dave enjoyed go-kart racing, and hanging out with his friends.
Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Saben, of Coal City; brothers and sisters: Larry Brown, of Coal City; Virginia “Ginny” (the late Gene) Proffitt, of Wilmington; Barbara (Dennis) Lenzie, of Braceville; Michael (Todd) Glenn, of Homer Glen and Trudy (Shawn) Kulish, of Chicago; his former wife, Linda Adams, of Wilmington, and her children, Roger and Julie.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, and his grandparents: Ruby Grace and Lloyd Allen and Everett and Mildred Nowman.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial service is being planned for later in the summer.
Dave will be laid to rest with military honors in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
