Seven graduates headed to the military

   “There are a lot of things in life that matter. But nothing matters as much as who or what you decide to serve.”
    The quote by former United States Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell speaks volumes about seven members of the Coal City High School class of 2018 as each of them has selected to serve their country as members of the nations military.
    Graduates Alex Armstrong, Rylee Barnhill, Brandon Kelly, Tyler Lauterbur, Noah Letterly, Ryan Taylor and Jason Wexleberg announced their intent to join the armed services.
    Letterly, the son of Michael Letterly, departed for U.S. Army basic training on Tuesday, May 29.
    Kelly, the son of Chad and Lara Kelly, is scheduled  to report to the Army on June 3.
    Armstrong, the son of Heather and Larry Mazikoske, will report to Ft. Sill in Oklahoma on July 26 to complete advanced individual training. He enlisted in March 2017 and completed basic combat training at Ft. Jackson, SC last summer through the split training option offered through the Army National Guard.
    Four graduates have selected to join the U.S. Navy and will complete the 10-week boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Station Recruit Training Command in Lake County, IL.
    Taylor, the son of Thomas and Julie Taylor, will be the first to report and is due at Great Lakes on June 26.
    Lauterbur, the  son of Chris Lauterbur and Kim Brewick, is scheduled to report on Aug. 14. Just short of one month later, Rylee Barnhill will arrive at the naval station as she begins her training on Sept. 10. Barnhill is the daughter of Deven and Amy Barnhill.
    The final Coaler to arrive at the recruit training command will be Jason Wexleberg, the son of Karl and Kathy Wexleberg.
