Eric L. Wassong

WILMINGTON—Eric L. Wassong, 52, of Wilmington and formerly of Oak Forest, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 at his home.
Born June 12, 1965 in Oak Lawn, Eric was a son of Raymond and Margaret (nee Swatkowski) Wassong. He was raised and educated in Oak Forest and graduated from Oak Forest High School with the class of 1983. After graduation, Eric worked various retail and grocery jobs until transitioning into security work for Allied Universal and Securitas for the past 15 years. In his free time Eric enjoyed gardening, growing tomatoes, antiquing, collecting and most of all finding a great deal. He will be remembered most for his love of animals, especially his cats.
Survivors include his sisters: Shelley (Richard Stang) Naples, of Crest Hill and Gerri Wassong, of Grand Prairie, TX; nephews: Vincent Naples and Anthony (Amanda Rojas) Naples, of Chicago and Nathan Naples, of Crest Hill; niece, Annie Novotny-Jeffries, of Chicago, as well as numerous cousins and dear friends: Jerry and Paulette Green, of Wilmington.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Margaret.
Per Eric's wishes cremation rites were accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 from 10 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. at Stone Hill Bible Church, 1516 Edgerton Drive, in Joliet. Pastor Greg Munyon will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Eric's memory to the Will County Humane Society, 24109 Seil Road, Shorewood, IL 60404.
