Coal City's farmers market, Market Fresh on Broadway, is expanding with two weekday markets.
The additional market days will provide area residents added opportunities to purchase locally sourced produce, along with homemade and handcrafted items.
The idea of weekday markets has been a topic of discussion among organizers since Market Fresh on Broadway debuted in 2016. With the encouragement and support of vendors, the farmers market committee is ready to open up Campbell Memorial Park from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, and Thursday, Sept. 6
Vendors currently registered for the first Thursday market are Perkins Farm, Store House Farms, Three Sisters Produce, Nettle Creek Lavender Farm, Apisera Craftworks, Tonya’s Trikes and More, Sunny Bee Farms and Rouge Curbside Kitchen. Additional vendors have already signed up to participate in September.
The first market of the season is just one week away with opening day set for  Saturday, July 21. A dozen vendors will be in the park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with produce, homemade jams, jellies and baked good, gift items, bath and body products, handcrafted items and locally sourced honey.
Additionally, vocalist Jesse McCants will provide music for shoppers, Small Town Theatrics will provide a sneak peak of its summer musical “Newsies” at 10 a.m., and the Morris Area YMCA will be in the park for a power fitness class beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Vendor registration remains open for both the Saturday and Thursday markets. Information can be obtained on the village of Coal City's website at www.coalcity-il-gov or by calling 815-634-8608.
Additional market dates are Saturday, Aug. 4 and 15 and Sept. 1 and 15.
