George “Mark” Gibson

COAL CITY—George Marcus “Mark” Gibson, 83, of Coal City, passed away peacefully, Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice in Joliet.  
Born Nov. 8, 1934 in Leitchfield, KY, he was the son of William M. and Frances (nee Basham) Gibson.  Mark married the former Mildred Johnson on Jan. 11, 1952 in Clarkson, KY, she survives. He enjoyed woodworking, working outdoors and took great care of his yard.  He also loved taking road trips and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially at their sporting events. Mark was known to be an avid sports fan, favoring the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls.  
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mildred “Millie” Gibson, of Coal City; son, Steve (Kay) Gibson, of Coal City; daughter, Paula (Kevin) Bunn, of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren: Chris, Brian, Greg, Aaron, Chad, Cassie, Andrew, and A.J.; 18 great-grandchildren and sister, Ruth Sachar, of Louisville, KY.  
Preceding him in death were his parents and step-mother, Ola.  
Funeral services will be from the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at 10 a.m.  Bill White will officiate.  Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais, IL.  The visitation will be Friday, Sept. 14, from 4-8 p.m.  
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his name may be directed to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
