Here's what you need to run for mayor or city council
The City of Wilmington will hold a Consolidated Election on April 1, 2025 to determine who will serve the next four years as mayor, city clerk, and four alderpersons.
The is election will be for the seats held by Mayor Ben Dietz, and alderpersons Ryan Jeffries (1st ward), Ryan Knight (2nd), Jonathan Mietzner (3rd), and Tom Smith (4th).
Information and petition forms will be available at Wilmington City Hall, 1165 S. Water Street beginning Aug. 20.
These same forms and additional information are available in the 2025 Candidate’s Guide, which can be found on the Illinois State Board of Elections website: https://www.elections.il.gov.
Completed and signed forms must be submitted to the city clerk’s office during the statutory filing period, Nov. 12 to 18.
Candidates are encouraged to review the 2025 Candidate’s guide on the Illinois State Board of Elections website and seek legal advice on heir eligibility and procedures for circulating, completing, and filing their petitions.
The city clerk’s office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
