Holiday tournament updates (Friday)

The holiday tournaments are quickly coming to a close, but there were plenty of games played last night, with many teams still alive in their respective competitions. Here is an updated list of what is going on around the area.

Boys basketball

In the Plano Holiday Classic, Coal City and Wilmington will both be playing on Saturday.

Coal City suffered a 55-46 loss to Kaneland in the second round of the consolation bracket, setting up a 19th place game with Plano on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The Coalers and Reapers are both 1-2 on the tournament.

As for Wilmington, they will play for 23rd place against Hinckley Big Rock on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The Wildcats suffered their third loss in a row during the tournament Thursday, falling to Yorkville Christian, 64-46.

Reed-Custer has been competing in the Marseilles Holiday Tournament, and bounced back on Thursday with a win over St. Bede, 68-58. The Comets will face Gardner-South Wilmington tonight (Friday) at 5 p.m. for fifth place in the bracket.

 

Girls basketball

Coal City and Reed-Custer both stayed alive in the consolation brackets during the Lisle Cage Classic, earning bounce-back wins after dropping their first games of the tournament.

The Lady Coalers defeated Lisle, 43-37, last night, and will play Addison Trail tonight at 8 p.m. The Lady Comets defeated Illiana Christian, 51-36, in the second round, and will now face Wheaton Academy at 6:30 p.m.

Both teams could meet in the next round if they both earn wins tonight. That game will be played on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.

Wilmington's stand in the Momence Holiday Tournament has come to a close, and will now have the rest of the week off until they return to conference action against Westmont on Jan. 4.

 

Wrestling

The ABE Rumble came to a close yesterday afternoon, with all three schools competing favorably in the tournament.

Coal City finished off the day with a second place, falling in the championship round to No. 1 ranked Lena-Winslow, 44-29.

Wilmington earned 13th in the tough wrestling tournament, finishing the day off with a 44-36 win over Sherrard.

Reed-Custer settled with 18th in the tournament, suffering a close loss to Erie Prophetstown to round out the day, 39-33.

All three wrestling teams will return to conference action Jan. 4, as Coal City hosts Reed-Custer and Plano. Wilmington will travel to Manteno for a quad with Herscher and Westmont.
