Jacquelyn Spurlock

WILMINGTON—Jacquelyn Spurlock, 74, of Wilmington and formerly of Darien, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Born Jan. 8, 1945 in Chicago, Jacquelyn Elizabeth was a daughter of Peter C. and Kathryn Ann (Carroll) Manganaro. She was raised and educated in Chicago, graduated from Maria High School with the class of 1963 and went on to attend St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing. She later furthered her studies at College of DuPage, as well as at Joliet Junior College.
Jacquelyn worked as a nurse for many years, holding positions at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Loyola University Hospital, in home healthcare and with hospice. She most recently however worked as a legal secretary, until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, the Wilmington Lions Club and in years past served as a Girl Scout Leader, as well as an adult leader with Boy Scouts of America. Jacquelyn loved handiwork, and was skilled in sewing, crocheting, knitting and cross stitch. She also took pleasure in ceramics and jewelry making, as well as word puzzles. Jacquelyn loved animals and cherished her visits to the zoo, as well as the memories made with her family at Brookfield Zoo.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Thomas Spurlock, who she married Jan. 11, 1969 in St. Mary of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in the Clearing neighborhood of Chicago; three children: Frank Spurlock, of Aurora; Jessica Spurlock, of Wilmington; Kathryn Mionske, of Wilmington and her partner, Michael McLaughlin, of Mokena; three grandchildren: Elizabeth Mionske (fiancé – Colin Hickey), of Joliet and Ronald Mionske and Emily Mionske, both of Wilmington; one sister-in-law, Louise Spurlock, of Boling Green, KY and six nephews: Joe Spurlock (Paula Hale), Danny (Lee) Spurlock, Allen (Beth) Spurlock, David (Jan) Spurlock, Brad Spurlock and Jim (Rita) Spurlock.
Jacquelyn was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019 between the hours of 2 and 7 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd. in Wilmington. Cremation rites will be accorded at the conclusion of the visitation, and a memorial service will follow Friday morning, Aug. 16, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Sebastian Gargol from St. Rose Parish will officiate, and inurnment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, where Jacquelyn will be laid to rest.
