Joan Atchey

WILMINGTON—Joan Elizabeth Atchey, 76, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at her home.
Born Feb. 17, 1941 in Chicago, Joan was a daughter of Emil and Margaret (nee Hense) Lohr. She was raised and educated in Chicago, and previously worked for Tivoli II restaurant for 13 years. Joan later worked as a realtor in Crete, IL, and as a blackjack dealer with Harrah’s Casino in Joliet. She was a devoted member of Island City Baptist Church in Wilmington, and enjoyed reading the Bible. Joan enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, as well as crafting.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond L. Atchey, of Wilmington, whom she married on March 22, 1980; five children: Margaret Grace Price, Julie Marie McDade, Raymond M. (Suzanne) Atchey, Michelle Emily (Mike) Howe-Russo and Justine Marie (Chris) Wood; seven grandchildren: Brandon Michael Price, Todd (Kristen) Atchey, Courtney Elizabeth Atchey, Michael Jordan Atchey, Rachel Elizabeth McDade, Mya Grace Howe and Amanda Grace Atchey; two great-grandchildren: Gavin Paul Atchey and Kyle Anthony Atchey; brother, Albert (Ruby) Lohr, of Bushnell, FL; sister-in-law, Raelene Joan Gibbons, of New Braunfels, TX; several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert W. (Edra) Lohr.
Per Joan’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial service will be held at Island City Baptist Church, 120 Vine St., in Wilmington on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Logsdon officiating.
