John A. Breen

ROCKDALE—John A. Breen, 73, of Rockdale, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center of Joliet.
Born Jan. 5, 1945 in Joliet, John Arthur was a son of John and Alice (nee Puhek) Breen. He was raised and educated in Joliet, and on Dec. 16, 1965, John married Marion Hottenstein in Baltimore, MD. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, and following his military service he worked as a welder for 20 years until his retirement. John was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Joliet, and was a proud member of the NRA. He enjoyed target shooting, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Marion; six children: Carolyn (Ken) Floyd, of Elwood; John A. Breen, of Marseilles; Diane (Ray) Rodriguez, of Aurora; Alice (Gene) Ziller, of Georgia; Patrick (Christine) Breen, of Wilmington and Daniel Breen, of Rockdale; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers: Rich (Jane) Breen, of Crest Hill; Larry (Linda) Breen, of Florida and Mike (Rachel) Breen, of Morris, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Per John’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial visitation and video tribute will be Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd., in Wilmington.
Memorials in John’s name may be given to the family for their distribution.
