John Phillips, Jr.

COAL CITY—John Robert Phillips, Jr., 62, of Coal City, passed away Wednesday April 11, 2018 at St. Margaret’s Health Care Center in Spring Valley, Illinois.
Born July 22, 1955 in Joliet, Illinois, John Robert was a son of John Robert, Sr.      "Jack" and Phyllis Jean (Johnson) Phillips. He was raised in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1973. John went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1976 until his honorable discharge in 1979.
He worked for the Laborer’s Local #75 for several years, and was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City. John enjoyed working in his yard and music. He will be remembered as a true die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his siblings: Kathleen Phillips of Milwaukee, WI, and Greg (Rose) Phillips, Lisa (Philip) Bertoglio and Mark (Jennifer) Phillips, all of Coal City; his nieces and nephews: Nicholas Arndt, Nathan Arndt, Kristen Arndt, Danny Phillips and Lauren Phillips; uncle, Joseph T. Phillips and aunt, Karen Togliatti, both of Coal City, and numerous cousins, as well as friends.
John was preceded in death by his father Jack (2005) and mother Phyllis (2017).
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, April 16, 2018 between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.
Funeral services will follow Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 215 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen presiding.
Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Pallbearers will be: Nicholas Arndt, Kristen Arndt, Danny Phillips, Pat Mallaney, Danny Carpenter and Kenny Carpenter; honorary pallbearers will be: Stephen Swartz and Dennis Marizza.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in John’s memory to an organization or charity of the donors choosing.
