Juniors, seniors eligible for Grundy County Summer Internships

The Grundy County Summer Internship is in its seventh year and is better than ever.  This summer, the program has over 40 paid opportunities for local juniors and seniors to gain valuable work experience at some of Grundy County's best employers.  Deadline to apply is Feb. 20.
Many people think internships are just for students in technical or college programs, but that is not the case. The sooner young people can get real life experience, learn about career options, and become vested in their futures, the better.  Here are some reasons why all juniors and seniors should consider applying for the Grundy County Summer Internship Program:
Real world experience-It is a great opportunity for young people to experience, first hand, what a career path is all about before they start their post high school education. The program gives students a glimpse into the day to day activities of many careers.  This program can assist students in identifying their true passion. Internships are a way to explore different career options and test drive possible jobs.
Resume builder-Resumes are all about demonstrating past experiences.   Get started now on building a quality resume.
Networking-Interns work closely with their supervisors and other co-workers, which create professional networks. These relationships are important resources for an intern and can turn into possible references, career advisors, and perhaps provide new job opportunities.
Program details-This year's program provides opportunities in a variety of fields including: accounting, law enforcement, engineering, machining, healthcare, industrial maintenance, IT, and much more. The internships are paid and include full and part time opportunities.  All the positions and companies are listed on the Grundy Area Vocational Center's website at www.gavc-il.org.
The program is open to all current juniors and seniors that attend Coal City, Gardner- South Wilmington, Minooka and Morris high schools or are a GAVC student. All completed applications are due by Feb. 20. For more information contact the GEDC office at 815-942-0163 or visit the GAVC website.
