LaVerne Day-Burnes

MORRIS—LaVerne Day-Burnes, 96, of Morris, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 at Park Pointe Healthcare in Morris.
Born Sept. 14, 1921 in Reading, Illinois, LaVerne was a daughter of John and Nora (Willis) Allison. She was raised and educated in Streator and went on to marry Elza Day. Together they raised their family and made their home in Morris. Elza preceded LaVerne in death in 1994, and she later married Dean Burnes, who preceded her in 2015.
In years past, LaVerne took pleasure in traveling and camping with her first husband Elza. Her ‘green thumb’ also provided for countless hours of enjoyment, both gardening as well as tending to her houseplants. Family was utmost importance to her and she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law Carol Day of Morris; six grandchildren: Brian (Lisa) Day and Michael (Suzanne) Day, both of Morris, Roberta (Ed) Skelton of Tennessee, and Kelly (Michael) Gramza and Kimberly Swore, both of Florida; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Elza; two sons John Day and James Day; one daughter Judith Blackmon; granddaughter Lisa Morris; great grandson Kellen Day; two brothers: Ed and Roy; four sisters: Katherine, Sylvia, Delores and Lorene and her second husband Dean Burnes.
Visitation will be held Monday morning, Jan. 22, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block east of Illinois Route 47) in Morris. Pastor Patrick Lohse from Bethlehem Lutheran Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, where LaVerne will be laid to rest with her late husband Elza and daughter Judith.
