Lois M. Geiss

WILMINGTON—Lois M. Geiss,  nee Erickson, 88, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Sept.  22, 2017 at her home.
Lois was born in Joliet to Oscar A. and Minnie (Kirchner) Erickson. She lived in Joliet until March 28, 1965 when she married Leon E. “Gene” Geiss and moved to Wilmington. Lois retired from Illinois Bell in 1981 after 25 years of service. She attended Elwood Community Church. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and knitting. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Lois “Bunny” Hemphill; two grandchildren, Jayson (Kristina) Hemphill, of Woodstock and Rayna Brophy, of Joliet; two great-grandchildren, Taylar Grace and Braden Eugene Brophy; three sisters-in-law: Margaret, Norma and Adela Geiss as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by close family friend, Jerry Nugent.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, “Gene” (2012); two brothers, Edward Phillip (in infancy) and Robert F. (Eleanore) Erickson; six brothers-in-law: LaVerne (Jewellane), Calvin, Ervin (Rose), Orville (Freida), Merle and Donald Geiss.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd., Wilmington, followed by interment at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held Thursday from  3-7 p.m.  
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Elwood Community Church in Lois’ name would be appreciated.
