Margaret L. Smith

    WILMINGTON—Margaret L. Smith (nee Ward), 82, of Wilmington, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet, IL.
    Being one of the original Ward girls with the beautiful blue eyes, Marge was born in Joliet and lived in Wilmington since 1974. Marge was formerly employed at the original Joliet Medical Group on Jefferson Street from 1955 until her retirement when they moved to their new location on Glenwood Avenue in 1968.
    She was a proud graduate of St. Bernard’s School in Ridgewood and the all-girls Providence High School in downtown Joliet. Marge will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother.
    She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years on Oct. 10, Thomas H. Smith of Wilmington, IL; her son, T.J./Thomas John (Angela) Smith of Wilmington, IL; sisters, Shirley Brookman, Norma Jean (Raymond) Webster, Lillian (Michael Sr.) Mancuso of Wilmington, IL, Patricia Orosco and Carol (Harold) Clark; brother, Robert (Kathy) Ward; her brother who walked her down the isle and held a special place in her heart, John Jr. (Marie) Ward; brother-in-law, Don Podlesny; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Preceded in death and joining her in heaven are her daughter, Mary Margaret Smith; her parents, John Sr. and Lillian (Woodin) Ward; her sister, Phyllis R. Podlesny; brother-in-law, John Brookman; niece, Michelle Mancuso Petrovic; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Connor) Smith; Uncle Buck, James Connor and special friends, Walter and Colleen Lampman, Grandma Roou, Grandma Lombardi and Colo and Marguerite Fornelli.
    Mom you were so kind and a living saint to everyone who met you.
    Funeral services were held at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017. Interment was in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
