New lane configuration on westbound I-80

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that as part of ongoing Interstate 80/U.S. 30 interchange improvements, westbound I-80 lanes will split at Francis Road to accommodate a westbound center lane to be built between Francis Road and U.S. 30.
To prepare for the traffic shift, starting 10 p.m. Monday, June 14, lane closures will take place on westbound I-80 between Interstate 355 (Veterans Memorial Tollway) and Gougar Road. At least one lane will remain open at all times.
By 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, the stage change will be in place. In the new configuration, the two westbound lanes will split at Francis Road and merge back after U.S. 30. The left westbound lane will shift over to new pavement, while the right westbound lane continues in its current configuration.
Westbound motorists wishing to exit at U.S. 30 will need to be in the right lane. The configuration will remain in place through the end of June. Eastbound traffic will not be impacted.
The $47 million project will reconstruct the I-80/U.S. 30 interchange, realign the exit and entrance ramps and extend a third lane to each direction on I-80, from approximately I-355 through the U.S. 30 interchanged.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
