Ray Funk

COAL CITY—Ray Funk, 89, of Coal City and formerly of Joliet and Romeoville, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 26, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born Nov. 1, 1928 in Joliet, Raymond John was a son of Raymond and Josephine (nee Semkowich) Funk. He was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Township High School with the class of 1946. After High School Ray went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War era.
After being honorably discharged he was employed by Commonwealth Edison where he would remain for 40 years up until his retirement on March 3, 1989.
Ray was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Joliet, Senior Star Veterans Club and the National Rifle Association. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting firearms.
Survivors include nieces and nephews: Darrell (Marci) D'Agostino, Deb (David) Jacobs-D'Agostino, Dorea D'Agostino and Jodi (nee Paul)(Jeff) Seyl; great nieces and nephew: Shanan D'Agostino, Jason D'Agostino, Jennifer Seyl and Jillian Seyl; great-great nephew: Hunter Phillips; brother: James R. Funk; caregivers: Lynda and Robert Hedtcke and numerous cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Barbara (nee Funk) D'Agostino and Carol (nee Funk) Paul; Brothers-in-law: Louis D'Agostino and James Paul and nephew: Jim Paul, Jr.
Visitation and video tribute will be held Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 between the hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral Services will follow Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Coal City United Methodist Church (6805 E McArdle Rd) in Coal City. Pastor Brad Shumaker will officiate.
A private family burial will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet where Ray will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ray's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
