Robert J. Ortman Sr.

MINOOKA—Robert J. Ortman Sr., “Bob,” “Camper Bob,” 85, of Minooka, was called home to the Lord on Monday, June 7, 2021.
He was born on July 29, 1935 to John and Marie Ortman. Bob was a very unique, loving, caring and outgoing individual who touched the lives of all who knew him. His home away from home was Indiana Beach Campground, where he was a seasonal camper for over 40 years. Survivors include his children: Robert (Anne) Ortman Jr., Linda Sapyta (Dan Kmak), Judith Ortman and Karen (Mike) Earls-Grygiel; his granddaughter and caregiver, Erin Dooley; grandchildren: Stacey Wheatley, Allan and Shannon Samuel, Peter and Robert Chicvara, Emily Sapyta, James and Charlie Mannix, Brett Earls, Lauren Rettig, Kristen Ortman and Jeff, Jennifer, Jonathan and Jessica Morency; great-grandchildren: Bryce (A.K.A. Double Ugly), Dakota, Landyn, Rylynn, Taylor, Nicholas, Linda, Larry, Mikey, Trista, Lathan, Arianna, Ethan, Blake, Alannia, Payton, Paige, Trinity, Christopher, Trevor, Brandon, Kaylie, Austin, Harper, Theodore, Maverick and Carter and great-great-grandchildren, Carter and Levi.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 51 years, Charleen Ortman.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held at Reeves Funeral Home, 203 Liberty St. in Gardner on Saturday, July 24, 2021 between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m.
A private inurnment will follow at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Minooka, where Bob will be laid to rest with his late wife, Charleen.
