Robert Stanford Jr.

GODLEY—Robert Lee Stanford Jr., 62, of Godley, passed away suddenly Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Born Jan. 28, 1957 in Joliet, he was the son of Robert Lee and Shirley Ann (Feldman) Stanford Sr. Bob graduated from Reed-Custer High School, class of 1975. He was a retired union carpenter with Local #1185 in Lisle, IL. He had been the commissioner for the Godley Park District for 18 years. When his son was young, he enjoyed volunteering as a Boy Scout leader. Bob was a true Chicago White Sox fan and his greatest hobbies were reading and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Andrea (nee Ellett) Stanford, who he married June 24, 1989 in Godley; three children: Corrine (John) Jacobi, of Joliet; James Fitzgerald, of Schaumburg, IL and Shawna (fiancé, Dave Bunting) Stanford, of Dwight; eight grandchildren: Alex, Nicholas, Lillie, Faith, Jared, Mackala, Ethen, and Madalyn; two sisters, Tami (Travis) Branum, of Braidwood and Debbie Minkwitz, of Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, and one brother, John Stanford.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial visitation for Bob will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Braidwood, Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020 from 4-6 p.m. with a brief memorial service beginning at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be directed to the Godley Park District Wildlife fund.
