Stephen Mercer

KEMPTON—Stephen H. “Hillbilly” Mercer, 63, of Kempton passed away at 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago.
Steve was born on March 20, 1954 in St. Charles, MO, a son of Hayden James and Dorothy Joy (Decker) Mercer, he married Sarah Canham on June 5, 1982 in Cabery, IL.
Steve loved spend time with his family, he enjoyed going to the South Wilmington Sportsman Club, trap shooting, throwing horse shoes, fishing and shooting pool.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Canham; children: Joshua (Samantha) Mercer of Wilmington, IL and Jessica (Chris Stewart) Mercer of Wilmington, IL,; Grandson: Charlie Mercer; one brother: Mitch (Lea) Mercer of Pontiac, IL; four sisters Cheryl (Don) Komnick of Plainfield, IL, Lucille (Joanne) Miller of Pontiac, IL, Nancy Doherty of Tampa, FL and Michelle (Kim) Mercer of Tampa, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Dave, Jim, Michael and Robert.
His Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 at the Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Cullom, Pastor Evan Sherar will officiate, burial will follow in Broughton Cemetery, Rural Kempton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
