The Wilmington Area Community Band will remain silent during the summer.

Organizer Wes Smith sent out an email to members saying the 2020 season is being canceled due to the current Covid-19 situation

“This is a disappointment to many of us, but the safety of our members and audience is the priority at this time,” Smith said.

“With some of the startup expenses due soon (liability insurance) and the uncertainty of securing locations and permission for an audience to gather, we didn't think the odds were very good for practices or performances this summer.”

Smith noted they are not the first band to make this decision. The WACB delayed it decision as long as possible with hope of a better forecast.

“We encourage all of you to keep practicing and stay in touch. When the situation changes, we know people will be eager to enjoy a summer evening outdoors with family, friends, and a fun musical performance,” Smith concluded.

Last year the volunteer band held five concerts from the beginning of June through Aug. 4. The Sunday evening events were free at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Wilmington.
