Thomas Walsh

MORRIS—Thomas Edward Walsh, 100, of Morris, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Dwight with his family by his side.
Born July 6, 1918 in Highland Township, Grundy County, he was the son of Thomas E. and Josephine (Kessler) Walsh.  He moved to Morris in 1923 and received his education at Immaculate Conception School in Morris. Eddie married Frances Carlson on Nov. 25, 1943 in Georgia and they lived all of their married life in Morris.  He was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Army 991st Corps of Engineers attaining rank of Sergeant and landed on “ D Day” on Utah Beach and was awarded the Silver Star. He was employed for 47 years at the Morris Paper Mill retiring in 1983. Eddie played baseball on the Morris Paper Mill Athletic Club and Sklut's teams.
He is survived by  three daughters: Fran (Denny) McCluckie, of Morris; Jeanne (Jim)Taylor, of Morris and Phyllis (Jay) Fillman, of Mazon; six grandchildren: Ryan (Molly) McCluckie, of Portland, OR; Karen McCluckie, of Naperville; Tom (Danielle)Taylor, of Marseilles; Laura (Josh) Carlson of Morris. Andy Fillman of Morris and Peter(Lauren) Fillman of Cambridge, MA; five great-grandchildren: Sophia Fillman, Finley Ader, Landon Taylor, Paleigh Carlson and Graham Carlson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Frances on Oct. 23, 2002; a son in infancy,  three brothers: Pat, Kenneth and Robert Walsh and one sister, Catherine “Toots” Hiney.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, oldest living member of American Legion Post 294 and a member of VFW John Martin Steele Post 6049.
Memorials may be given to the Heritage Health Activities Fund, Kankakee Community Hospice or the donor's choice.
Private funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 at the Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St. in Morris with Rev. Edward J. Howe, CR officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.  Military honors were provided by the Morris Color Guard.
