Wesley A. Walker

WILMINGTON—Wesley Allen Walker, 74, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 at his home.
Born Dec. 18, 1944 in Roanoke, IL, he was the son of Walter and Edna (nee Moore) Walker. A retired Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served during the Vietnam War and was awarded with the Purple Heart Medal. He fought the good fight against Agent Orange and cancer. Wes also retired from the Department of Corrections after numerous years of employment. He was active in the VFW for many years and was the past commander, he was also a member of the American Legion. Wes loved to ride his Harley and was a member of Shield MC. He loved old westerns, going out to eat and the watching the birds in the back yard.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann (nee Greenback) Laufer, of Wilmington, whom he married July 10, 2015 in Morris; one step-son, Dustin Laufer, of Buda, IL; two step-daughters, Jessica (Aren) Hansen, of Morris and Kristin (Michael) VanDuyne, of Wilmington; two step-grandchildren, Kinley and Millie VanDuyne; one brother, Kurt (Penny) Menssen and two sisters, Mary Ann Walker, of Bloomington and Donna Smith, of Las Vegas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Walter “Bud” Walker and two sisters, Lois Lehr and Betty Ulrich.
A special thanks to our angels from Newsome Home Health, Joliet Area Community Hospice, and Jen Clauson who was with us until the end.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with memorial services beginning at 1 p.m. Chaplin Jim McGuire will officiate. Inurnment with full military honors will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
