HISTORIC BRIDGE—The Kankakee Street bridge which crosses Forked Creek in Wilmington is eligibe for listing on the National Registry of Historic Places. There are fewer than 40 bridges like it in the entire United States and 32 of those are single span structures. But after 184 years the integrity of the bridge is in question and the city of Wilmington is considering several replacement options starting that could cost as much as $3.5 million.
