Those who drive busy Lorenzo Road in Wilmington will soon see a major improvement to one of the region’s most frequently delayed railroad crossings.
BNSF Railway has awarded an $18.9 million construction contract to D Construction, Inc. of Coal City to replace the existing at-grade railroad crossing on Lorenzo Road with a new overpass bridge.
The project will carry vehicles above the busy BNSF rail line, eliminating the need for traffic to stop for passing trains, thus eliminating the frustration of long delays.

Brace your taste buds, Wilmington — your south of the border cravings will soon be delivered, wrapped in a pastel dream, or better yet, in a corn or flour tortilla.
The city has taken its final step to approve a Taco Bell, meaning fans of Crunchwrap Supremes and Nacho Fries will no longer be forced to make  taco runs to Diamond.
Plans for a new Taco Bell on South Water Street, just south of Dollar General, received the city council’s blessing on Feb. 17.
How it all began

Emergency Services Agencies are keeping an eye on the ice-covered Kankakee River, hoping history won’t repeat itself by flooding low-lying areas when the ice breaks free.
Siphoning of warm water from Dresden Power Station’s cooling lake into the Kankakee River is one way to prevent ice jams and flooding as the weather gets warmer. The siphoning discharge was turned on Friday to jump-start the process.
Dennis Housman, Director of Wilmington ESDA, said his fingers are crossed.

The agenda item read: “Discussion and consideration to terminate the lease agreement with Wilmington Lion’s Club and revoke access to the River Street building.”
To the residents who packed the Jan. 9 city council meeting, the wording of the agenda item appeared absolute, indicating the Lions Club would be ousted from the River Street building known as the Civic Center.
