In the cocktail world, nearly all “secret” recipes eventually come out of the shadows. Trader Vic's Mai Tai, Floridita's Daiquri and Donn the Beachcomber's Navy Grog have all been tracked down and published.
Then there is the Rum Ramsey: a recipe known to only one family and served in only one New Orleans restaurant.

Ask 100 people, “What is a Daiquiri?” and I suspect that you would receive a wide range of responses.
To some, the essence of the Cuban classic cocktail is an image straight out of 1920s Havana of a coupe glass filled with rum, lime and sugar.
To others, a Daiquiri is a giant, frozen, whipped cream topped wonder available in all colors of the rainbow.

Last month Tiger Woods did something that shocked not only the golf world, but the world at large when he won his fifth green jacket at the Masters Tournament.
Tiger's victory at the 2019 Masters comes 22 years after his first Masters win and 15 years after he previous win. That's 81 PGA tour wins for Tiger, 15 of which are majors.
This week we toast Eldrick Tont Woods with the official cocktail of Augusta, the Azalea.

Make an “official” Margarita this Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo 2019 is upon us. Is your Margarita game strong enough to answer the bell?
The “Margarita” label is attached to nearly every cocktail made from tequila and lime juice, but there is an “official” Margarita recipe.
This year we are going back to basics as we salute the original International Bartenders Association (IBA) certified Margarita.
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of what is or is not a Margarita, know that the many variations of the beloved tequila cocktail are based on this original recipe.

This week we will meet a member of the Bloody Mary family and toast the beginning of summer, Canadian style.
Meet the Caesar, Canada's answer to the Bloody Mary and one of four members of the Bloody Mary family.
Rounding out the Bloody Mary family are the gin-based Red Snapper, the tequila-based Bloody Maria, and the classic Bloody Mary.

The Clover Club, named after a Philadelphia social club

    Greed, corruption and the second industrial revolution are not the only relics of the Gilded Age.
    During this era a social club of Philadelphia lawyers, senators, newspapermen, judges and other power brokers began to meet on the third Thursday of each month at various locations eventually calling themselves the “Clover Club”.
    The club began meeting in 1896 in Philadelphia's Bellevue-Stratford Hotel and chose the clover as their symbol due to its association with good fortune. Also, the expression “to live in clover” meant to have a carefree existence.

    Can you tell the difference between a Bloody Mary and a Red Snapper?
    The drinks are identical in appearance but dramatically different in taste, so you will have to taste the drink to find out which one is being served. If you have never had a Red Snapper, you are in for a treat.
    Before we go any further, I would like to address the obvious: The Red Snapper is a first cousin to the Bloody Mary. Despite the difference in base spirit, the two drinks share a common origin.

    Win or lose, it seems as though drinks will flow on both sides following everything from a championship game to a hard fought election.
    The Boston area has seen its share of Super Bowl victories and literally centuries of bitter political battles. One such battle occurred in 1898 and resulted not only in a victory for Boston power broker Martin Lomasney, but also in a delicious cocktail, the elusive Ward Eight.

The “tiki revival” is in full swing across the country as new Polynesian-themed bars and restaurants are opening in nearly all major metro areas.  
This is exciting news for fans of tiki drinks that until recently had limited access to the classic rum cocktails outside of their home bars.  These new establishments are introducing a new generation to the classic tiki drinks, and all signs point to success as we take an early look at mixology trends in 2019.

    The constantly evolving Planter's Punch has been a mainstay of Caribbean mixology for over a century.
    The original Barbadian recipe started with a recipe set to a rhyme: One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak.
    The version of Planter's Punch that is currently served in most tropical and resort bars shares little to nothing with the original version of the iconic rum punch. Nearly every aspiring tiki mixologist will put his or her own spin on the drink.
