Braidwood leaders to residents: Don’t be a slob

GARBAGE PICKUP IN Braidwood is Monday and Tuesday, depending on which zone residents are in. City leaders are asking residents to be more thoughtful and less messy when it's time to haul out the weekly refuse. Image provided.
City leaders in Braidwood were talking trash about what goes on along city streets during the Aug. 8 regular meeting of the City Council.
Finance Commissioner Doug Money said the behavior of some folks on garbage day belongs in the landfill along with the rest of the rubbish.
Money said the city’s service provider, Environmental Recycling and Disposal, recently sent the city some photos of what some streets look like when the garbage trucks come by to take out the trash.
“I’ve been included in some information from our garbage company,” Money said. “I was kind of shocked at what I saw in the pictures they sent. I just want to remind people, you’re allowed garbage every week, yard waste every week, recycle once every other week, and one large item per week. One large item does not include half of your garage and four garbage cans full of stuff and garbage bags thrown all over. It was ridiculous, the stuff that I saw. And some of it was multiple houses on one block. So, I’m just wanting to remind everybody: Don’t do that.”
Refuse service is Monday or Tuesday, depending on your residential zone.
In addition to weekly refuse pick-up, Environmental’s service also includes:
• Every other week recycling pick-up
• Seasonal weekly yard waste pick-up, from the week of April 1 through the week of Nov. 30
• One bulk item pick-up per week
• One appliance (white good) pick-up per week
• Annual spring and fall cleanout days
• Quarterly e-waste pick-up ($35/item)
• Additional cart rentals ($6/month)
