Bus crash on I-55 halts 8th grade trip

Reed-Custer Middle School eighth graders on their way to Great America Amusement Park never reached their destination Tuesday after the buses they were riding in were involved in a traffic accident on northbound Interstate 55.
Channahon Fire Department was called to the DesPlaines River bridge shortly after 8:40 a.m. Tuesday after a report that three Reed-Custer School buses had been involved in a crash.
Braidwood Police arrived on scene on Interstate 55 at the 246 mile marker to assist the Illinois State Police and reported that there were no serious injuries.
“We are working to relocate everyone off of Interstate 55 at this time,” the Braidwood Police posted on social media at 9 a.m. The decision was made to transport all of the students back to Braidwood on new school buses.
Students were relocated off interstate 55 to a remote crash site (a local gas station off of I-55) so the Illinois State Police could complete its traffic crash investigation. Braidwood Police Officers were with the students while they waited for the new buses to arrive.
All students were safely returned to the Reed Custer Middle School shortly after 11 a.m.. The traffic crash is being investigated by the Illinois State Police.
