KENT BUGG, Megan’s dad and president of the Megan’s Mission Foundation, greets runners as they cross the finish line of the 2022 race. The annual event is a fundraiser for the foundation that seeks to carry forward Megan’s mission of ending childhood cancer.

The Megan’s Mission 5K run/walk to end childhood cancer is quickly approaching and there is still time to sign up.

Proceeds will support the Megan’s Mission Foundation that is dedicated to honoring Megan Bugg’s goal of ending childhood cancer through advocacy, research and scholarship.

Set for Saturday, Sept. 16, the race will get underway at 6 p.m. in the 600 block of S. Broadway in Coal City. Babe’s Tap will serve as the host location for run. The course will take racers south on Broadway to Reed Road and then back north into the village.

The cost to participate is $35 per person. Register on-line at runsignup.com/RaceIL/CoalCity/MegansMission

In addition to the 5K in Coal City, there will be a virtual run and participants from anywhere in the world can sign-up through the on-line registration link. The cost for the virtual run is $40 per person and registration must be completed by Sept. 28 for this portion of the event.

Race T-shirts will be handed out and guaranteed to all who sign-up for the run by 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 3.

Megan passed away in March 2022 after a seven year battle with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. Megan and the foundation in her named have raised over $1.8 million for childhood cancer research. All funds raised from the 5K will go to the Megan’s Mission Foundation.
