Sylvia M. Hakey

WILMINGTON—Sylvia M. Hakey (nee McCoy), 91, of Wilmington, formerly of Braceville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021 at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet.
She was born March 18, 1930 in Franklin County, NE to Earl E. and Mildred Catrina (nee Danielson) McCoy. Sylvia made Braceville home, where she raised her family with her husband, Larry. She was a homemaker the majority of her life and she was also a wonderful seamstress. In her spare time she also loved to read. Sylvia was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
Surviving are one son, David (Diane Poppen) Hakey, of Roanoke, VA; three daughters: Cindy (John) Amis, of O'Fallon, IL; Nancy Hakey, of Joliet and Kelly (Martin) Howard, of Diamond; four grandchildren: Crystal, Derek, Olivia and Harrison; sister, Shirley Ely, of Diamond; daughter-in-law, Lisa Hakey, of Long Beach, CA and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Lawrence L. Hakey (9/5/1996), who she married Feb. 26, 1950 in Joliet; one son, Bradley Hakey and one great-grandson, Anthony Hakey; six siblings: Donald, Vernon, Calvin, Francis, Kathleen and Cathy.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name to Kuzma Cottage, Wilmington Public Library, or the Native American Rites Funds would be appreciated.
