Wilmington 209-U school year will face delayed start

The 2023-2024 school year will start later than usual in Wilmington.

The Wilmington School District 209-U Board of Education recently formally approved the recommended school calendar for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.

As a result of a major heating and air conditioning related construction project at SIS, which is scheduled to be completed throughout the upcoming summer break, the beginning of the new school year will take place later than usual.

The first day of school is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, approximately two weeks later than usual. District officials said that due to the heavy construction schedule throughout the summer, the additional time off will be necessary.

As a result, this year’s summer break will be just a little longer than most.

The tentative last day of school for the 2023-2024 school year will be scheduled for June 6, 2024, pending any potential emergency cancellation days.

Additional details will be added on the school district website.

Meanwhile, registration for the 2023-2024 school year will begin later this month.

All returning and new students will need to be officially registered for the upcoming school year.

Each building principal will be sharing more details in the days and weeks ahead. The Skyward online registration system is scheduled to open up on March 27.

Parents are asked to be aware that the online registration program is not accessible via cell phone. The process must be completed from a laptop or desktop computer.

If you do not have access to a computer, please contact the main office of your child’s school to make arrangements for access to the appropriate technology.

Additional details and information regarding online registration will be posted on the school district website at www.wilmington.will.k12.il.us/Registration.
