WMS 8th grade earn IVC tourney title
THE 8tH GRADE LADYCAT sotball team won the IVC Championship on Saturday, beating Reed-Custer 7-4. The Wilmington Middle School 8th grade softball team won the IVC Conference championship Saturday, beating Reed-Custer 7-4.
The Lady Wildcats rattled off four runs their first turn at bat then added a lone run in the second to build a 5-0 lead.
The Lady Panthers scored two runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the fifth to close the gap to 5-4 before Wilmington scored a pair of insurance runs in the bottom inning to win it for good.
Leading Wilmington at the plate was Madison Knight who tripled and singled in 3 RBIs. She also scored twice. Ali Allgood (2 RBIs) and Nina Egizio contributed two hits each. Taryn Gilbert singled in a run.
Allgood started on the mound for the Lady Cats, striking out 10 batters over five innings while giving up four runs off seven hits while walking two.
Gilbert finished off the Panthers pitching two innings of no hit softball.
Wilmington 10, Morris 0
The 8th grade Lady Cats began the day with an easy win over Morris on Saturday.
Allgood and Gilbert combined for a no hitter while the Lady ‘Cats garnered 12 hits. Allgood struck out 10 batters over four innings while Gilbert fanned one batter in the fifth when the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Wilmington’s Aubree Jandura had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-for 3 with a triple and double for 3 RBIs. Taryn Gilbert was 2-for 2 and scored two runs while Addison Billingsleyhad a two-run single. Also credited with two his was Keeley Walsh
