Shop with a Cop, Blue Santa return to Braidwood

For some people, interacting with law enforcement might seem like something to avoid.

But, for the members of the Braidwood Police Department, getting to know the community is just part of the job description. And, what better way to get to know your neighbors than lending a helping hand.

On Dec. 9, 18 children from the community took a shopping trip to Walmart in Morris with Braidwood Police Chief Todd Lyons, a dozen officers, their spouses, volunteers from ESDA, and members of the administration for the 4th Annual Shop with a Cop event.

A season of reaching out and giving back was capped off for the Braidwood Police Department with a memorable event that left everyone smiling.

On Christmas day, members of the police department, Braidwood ESDA, and the city administration tagged along with the Jolly Old Elf for the second annual Blue Santa event.

The group delivered Christmas gifts, two boxes of non perishable food provided by the Community Care Center Food Pantry, and a hot Christmas dinner prepared by Walter “Freak” Kozielski from Top Fuel Saloon to families around town.

Knights of Columbus give Braidwood PD a boost for holiday programs

The temperatures are starting to cool off and there’s just a touch of color on the trees. But while fall may just be starting, the Braidwood Police Department is already planning two big events for this winter.

Last week, the department accepted a $1,000 donation from the Braidwood Knights of Columbus Council 1574, money that will be put to good use for this year’s Blue Santa and Shop with a Cop programs.
