Lady Comets split two I-8 games

    The Reed-Custer varsity girls soccer team saw mixed results this past week, as they walked away with one conference win and one conference loss.
    The Lady Comets (3-5 overall, 1-1 conference) secured their first I-8 win on Thursday, as they traveled to Plano for a 1-0 shutout.
    Marissa Escobedo recorded the loan goal for the team, which was enough to secure the lead and win, as Gabi Perez had solid showing in net with 19 saves.
    The game served as a solid bounce back, with Reed-Custer suffering a loss to a tough Lisle team last Tuesday.

Mother nature puts a damper on spring sports

    Mother Nature has been uncooperative.
    While game cancellations this time of year are typically due to spring thunderstorms, this year has been a different.
    Winter is refusing to go away, and in turn athletes and fans are enduring freezing temperatures and even snow.
    “This year has definitely been different,” said Wilmington Athletic Director, Brian Goff. “Typically in the spring it is rain. You can move a day or two, and you are good. This season it is cold, and it has been consistent. This has definitely been one of the more frustrating springs.”

Lady Comets upend the Irish, fall to Morris

    Reed-Custer’s varsity softball team saw their undefeated streak come to an end on Monday, as the Lady Comets suffered a 2-0 loss to Morris in just their third game of the season.
    Reed-Custer wasn’t itself at the plate, struggling to get hits against a tough Redskins pitcher.
    The team managed just two hits, and was unable to light up the scoreboard with a run through seven.

Comet miscues give Bishop Mac the win

    While the Reed-Custer varisty baseball team suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday, it wasn’t due to not playing well.
    Reed-Custer’s defense was absolutely relentless for five of the seven innings, keeping Bishop McNamara’s offense silent for most of the game in the 4-2 loss.
    “Defensively, we have been doing a pretty good job all season,” said Comet coach Jake Evans. “We did a pretty good job today, except for a few miscues.”

Comets sweep competition to remain undefeated

    The Reed-Custer varsity baseball team rallied against Grant Park  on Friday to win 5-3 and remain undefeated on the season (3-0 overall).
    Grant Park lit up the scoreboard in the first frame, but Reed-Custer battled back in the top of the second to tie it back up.
    The momentum continued to roll into the fourth and fifth innings as Reed-Custer registered three more runs to take a 5-2 advantage.

Lady Comets make a statement for starters

    The Lady Comets picked up a dominating win in their first game of the season on Thursday, defeating Momence in five innings, 14-0.
    Antoinette Hill was unstoppable from the pitcher’s circle, as she let up just two hits, while striking out seven batters en route to the win.
    She also had plenty of offense backing her up, as Reed-Custer scattered 11 hits, including four for extra bases.
    Leading the way was Kelsi Dillon, who went 3-for-3 on the day with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Lady Comets get a big win over Rich East

    The Reed-Custer varsity girls soccer team had a mixed week of success, as they finished with a 1-2 run through their three games.
    The Lady Comets started the week off with a dominating 9-0 win over Rich East.
    Karina Marrs picked up a hat trick, scoring three goals, while Marissa Escobedo tallied two.
    Amber Clavenna, Jenna Tiangco, Gianna Pinto and Jasline Valle each picked up one goal on the day.
    The remainder of the week didn’t go as positively for the Lady Comets as they suffered shutout losses to Beecher and Coal City.

Reed-Custer continues strong track showing on season

    The Reed-Custer varsity track teams kept rolling on Saturday, as they competed in their annual Comet Classic Invite.
    Nine teams were represented at the even and the Comet boys and girls finished in fourth place.
    On the girls side, Reed-Custer finished with 71 team points, as the top three spots went to Clifton Central (91), Plano (89) and Genoa-Kingston (80).
    For the boys team, the Comets tallied 64 points. The top three finishers in the boys events were Plano (97), Clifton Central (92) and Westmont (65).

    The Reed-Custer varsity girls soccer team won one and lost one this past week, as they picked up a win over Wilmington, but suffered a tough loss to Illiana Christian.
    The Lady Comets kicked the season off last Wednesday with their home opener against the Lady Wildcats.
    Marissa Escobedo got her season off to a good start, scoring both goals in Reed-Custer’s 2-1 win over Wilmington.
    The Lady ‘Cats could responded with one goal in the final eight minutes of the game.

R-C track teams are up and running

    Reed-Custer’s varsity track team held their second coed meet of the season on Saturday, competing against nine other teams.
    The Lady Comets took fourth place with 46 points, finishing behind Seneca (121) New Lenox (84) and Sandwich (66.5).
    The boys team placed fifth with 51 points, finishing behind Prairie Central (93), David Speer Academy (71), Streator (68) and Sandwich (61).
    Starting with the girls team, Jaden Christian was the only Lady Comet to win a first place, doing it twice.
