Comets steal their way to fifth place during Marseilles tourney

The Reed-Custer varsity boys basketball team  picked up fifth place in the Marseilles Tournament, by defeating Gardner-South Wilmington, 68-39.
    The Comets were out-scored 11-9 in the first frame but took over from there to coast to victory.
    With a shooting percentage of 40, the Comets quickly capitalize, holding a 25-21 advantage at half, and going on a 26-8 run in the third to put the game out of reach for the Panthers.

Lady Comets pick up one win in Lisle tourney

    The Reed-Custer varsity girls basketball team faced some stiff competition in the Lisle Cage Classic this past week, finishing with a 1-3 overall record in the tournament.
    Even though the Lady Comets bounced back from their initial loss with a win in the second round, Reed-Custer would go on to lose  consecutive games in consolation to Wheaton Academy and Coal City.
    On Friday, Reed-Custer faced Wheaton Academy to decide who would go to the consolation championship.
    The Lady Comets suffered a 40-35 loss.

Lady Comets extend win streak to four, defeat Coalers before Lisle tourney

    The start of Thursday night’s game didn’t exactly go as Reed-Custer planned. However, by the fourth frame the Lady Comets varsity girls basketball team pulled it together to win over Coal City, 43-37.
    The win gives Reed-Custer momentum heading into the Lisle Cage Classic, one of the toughest girls holiday tournaments in the state. It was the fourth in a row for RCHS as they improve to 7-8 overall, 3-4 conference.

    Conference woes continued for Reed-Custer Friday night, as they remain searching for their first I-8 win after a tough 82-77 loss to Coal City.
    The Comets (3-8 overall, 0-5 conference) head to the Marseilles Tournament where they faced last-year’s champion, Serena, during the opening round Tuesday night.

Lady Comets prove Panthers and Bulldogs aren’t a threat

The Reed-Custer varsity girls basketball team came alive late Monday night to defeat Gardner-South Wilmington on the road, 49-26.
     Reed-Custer (5-8 overall) missed some opportunities to score in the first quarter and thankfully G-SW had its miscues too as the score was tied 8-8 after one. By half-time, the Lady Comets held a slime margin, 14-12.
    It was the second half that truly put the game out of reach for the opposing Panthers.

Comets fall to their toughest opponent yet

    Heading into Friday night’s game, the Reed-Custer varsity boys basketball team knew the challenge.
    Streator would be entering the game undefeated in conference, featuring a roster with players with height.
    However, the Comets didn’t shy away and in fact, they took a lead at the end of the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs handed Reed-Custer an 85-78 conference loss to keep the Comets looking for their first I-8 win.

Comets end losing streak with a win over Clifton Central

    The Reed-Custer varsity boys basketball team got one back in the win column on Saturday, ending a four-game losing streak with a win over Clifton Central.
    The Comets unleashed any pent-up frustrations, as they won in dominating fashion, 89-57.
    “The kids played hard and again caused a lot of  turnovers,” said R-C coach Mark Porter. “We needed a game where we turned the corner, or got over the hump so to say. We hope this was it.”

Lady Comets pick up first I-8 win

    The Reed-Custer varsity girls basketball team took full advantage of Lisle’s miscues, as they were able to pick up their first conference win of the season on the road against the Lions, 48-23.
    Reed-Custer (3-7 overall, 1-4 conference) started slow Thursday night, managing just five points to Lisle’s seven, but quickly slammed the door shut the remaining three quarters.
    “It was a big win tonight for us,” said head coach Nick Klein. “Antoinette Hill and Jaden Christian both had huge games.”

Lady Comets struggle in conference action, drop three

    The Reed-Custer varsity girls basketball team dropped their third conference game in a row Monday night,  falling 50-45 to Peotone.
    The Lady Comets held with the Blue Devils throughout the first three quarters, giving themselves a chance at a win.
    Plano held a 9-6 led in the first, and kept the three-point lead by half-time, 22-19.
    In the third quarter, Reed-Custer mounted a comeback, outscoring the Devils, 11-8, to tie the game at 30-30.

Comets secure win over Illiana Christian

    The Reed-Custer varsity wrestling team had a successful Monday, as they defeated Illiana Christian, 63-18.
    The Comets picked up 36 of their 63 points off forfeits. The only loss for Reed-Custer on the night was at 195, as Bobby Moorman suffered a pin in the second period. Comets Adell Gamboa and Gabe Nagel also picked up pins.
