Comets looking for Touchdown Club officers

    With Reed-Custer’s football program nearing the end of the season, the Comets are looking for new parents to take on board member roles for next year’s Touchdown Club.
    The club, in its third year, raises funds for the football program outside of the Reed-Custer Athletic Boosters. Money raised helps the Comets travel to a yearly summer college camp, along with scholarships for graduating athletes.

Lady Comets claim fifth in Beecher, hold Volley for Cure

    The Reed-Custer varsity volleyball team traveled to Beecher this past weekend,where they placed fifth in a tournament.
    In pool action, the Lady Comets defeated Leroy in the first game, 25-12, 25-21. Reed-Custer then split the next two matches with Morris and St. Anne.
    Against Morris, the Lady Comets won the first game, 25-23, but dropped the second, 25-15. It was a little vice versa against St. Anne, where they dropped the first, 25-18, but won the second 26-24.

First score doesn't last for Comets

Comets don’t fear the Reapers

    The Reed-Custer varsity football team may have missed their chance to make playoffs this year, but that doesn’t mean the season is over.
    The Comets will have two more weeks to battle for wins, as they prepare to travel to Plano Friday.
    “With playoffs out of the picture, we talked about finishing,” said head coach Mark Wolf. “The truth is, we haven’t had a team that finished off here. Once playoffs went out of the picture they set their sights on other things.”

Comets to host Wilmington in a battle for the ACE trophy

    It is almost a replay of last year. Reed-Custer enters week seven against Wilmington with their chances of a playoff berth hanging in the balance.
    The only difference is the Comets will be hosting the Wildcats this time, and while Reed-Custer is riding a two-game winning streak, Wilmington will be looking  to put that trend to bed.
    The two teams will have plenty to play for this week, and it should shape up to be a tough battle for the last I-8 Small competition of the season.

Comet kickers pick up two wins, prepare for Regional

    The Reed-Custer varsity boys soccer team is gaining momentum before heading into Regional, winning two of their last three matches.
    The Comets highlighted their week with a 6-1 win over Clifton Central on Monday during senior night.
    “I think we are playing some decent soccer right now,” said Comet coach Andy Gleixner. “We knew early on that our schedule wasn’t too friendly, and it has been a little better here at the end.”

Lady Comets clip Sandwich

    The Reed-Custer varsity volleyball team was hungry  Tuesday against Sandwich, coming from behind to win in three games.
    They dropped the first game, 25-19, but rallied in the two following games to win, 25-22, 25-23.
    “It was a real nail biter all the way to the finish, but with the ace serves from Emily Wolf (seven total), in the third game, the Comets pulled ahead,” said R-C coach Kelly Van Duyne.
    “Sandwich didn’t give up and ended up tying the match, but defense was key to the win.”

Reed-Custer votes to leave I-8

    The dominoes continue to fall in terms of schools voting to leave the I-8 Conference.
    The Reed-Custer board of education voted Wednesday to leave the I-8 to join Wilmington, Streator and five others in forming a new conference.
    The three schools have made their vote known, leaving Coal City, Streator, Plano, Peotone and Herscher next in line to vote during their board meetings.
    The plan is for all the schools to bring a formal announcement of withdrawal to the next I-8 board meeting, which will be held in October.

Comets to carry momentum into Seneca

    Reed-Custer entered Friday’s contest with one goal in mind, to win out the rest of the season with hopes of making the playoffs.
    The Comets showed what can happen when their backs are against a wall, and this week is no different as they search for win number two at Seneca on Saturday at 1 p.m.
    “Seneca is next, and since I’ve been here we haven’t beat them,” said R-C coach Mark Wolf. “We’re 0-3 against them, so they always play us well. We have to go 1-0 again, so I’m expecting a great week of preparation.”

Lady Comets pick up wins in Comet Classic, finish sixth

    The Reed-Custer varsity volleyball team fought until the end during Monday night’s match against Pontiac.
    Unfortunately, the Lady Comets were unable to pick up the win, as they won the second game, 26-24, but dropped the first and third, 25-17, 25-16.
    Madelyn Alton put up 11 kills, 17 digs, two blocks and two aces, while libero Emily Wolf compiled 29 digs and one kill.
    Maddi Tiangco added another 17 digs on the night.
    It was a tough night overall for the Lady Comets, as both the junior varsity and freshmen teams also suffered losses.
