Largest solar facility in Will County coming to Custer, Reed Townships

One of the largest solar energy sites in the county is coming to town. If approved by Will County, the nearly 3,600 acre industrial solar site will be built on 63 parcels ranging from 5 acres to 160 acres in Custer and Reed townships.

Two new trustees for Custer Fire Protection District board

The Custer Fire Protection District will meet again on Aug. 23, once again with a full board.

On Aug. 16, the Custer Township Board met to appoint two people to the vacant seats on the Custer Fire Protection District (CFPD) board of trustees, as the contentious issue of whether to enter an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Braidwood Fire Protection District for services still looms.

Custer, Braidwood fire departments plan for service agreement

Four years after reopening, the Custer Fire Protection District (CFPD) looks to be handing the reins to the Braidwood Fire Department, at least for the next five years.

On June 21, the members of the CFPD met with members of the Braidwood Fire Protection District (BFPD) to discuss a draft intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the two departments.

The agreement would hand operations of the Custer Park fire department over to Braidwood, including both fire protection and ambulance coverage, as well as control of Custer’s assets.

Proposed Custer solar farm has benefits for tax revenue, energy production

A proposal for a new solar farm in Custer Township brought dozens of members of the public out to a meeting to listen to plans and ask some questions of their own.

Representatives from Acciona, a renewable energy corporation based in Spain with U.S. operations headquartered in Chicago, presented plans for the photovoltaic system (PV) installation to more than 60 people who attended the meeting on Nov. 18 at the old primary school in Custer Park.

Solar farm proposed for Custer Township

Members of the Custer Township Board of Supervisors will host a meeting for residents next Thursday, in an effort to answer any questions folks might have about a proposed 3,000-acre solar farm for the township.

Township Supervisor Jon Furlan said representatives from Acciona, a renewable energy corporation based in Spain with U.S. operations headquartered in Chicago, will present the plans for the photovoltaic system (PV) installation to the public during an informal session on Nov. 18.

After 28 years, Tammen retires

Outgoing Custer Township Supervisor Bruce Tammen was honored for nearly three decades of service earlier this month.

Tammen opted to retire from the position this year. New Township Supervisor Jon Furlan presented Tammen a plaque honoring his 28 years of dedicated service to the residents of Custer Park.

Tammen volunteered his time on the township planning committee in October of 1992, then served four years as a trustee before moving on to become the Township Supervisor.

Election 2017 - School board candidates unopposed, but face important issues

It may be news to some, but there’s an election headed this way.

The April 4 consolidated election shows only a handful of local elected seats up for grabs, with many of the candidates in contests running unopposed.

One of those contests is four seats on the Reed-Custer School Board. Those seats are each being sought by incumbents with no challenges. The board members up for election but who will be retained are Kris Van Duyne, Devin Dransfeldt, Michael Grace, and Jesse Morris.
