Judge rules 14 Republicans can be on the ballot

A state law essentially designed to prevent Republicans from appointing legislative candidates to the ballot after the March primary was ruled unconstitutional by a Sangamon County judge last week, but her ruling only applied to the 14 Republican plaintiffs in the case who are running for the Illinois House and Senate.
The law prohibited local party slating of legislative candidates when no candidate had run in the primary. But, as Circuit Judge Gail Noll noted, the bill was passed and signed into law after the 75-day post-primary candidate slating process had already begun.

Petitions available for April 2021 election

Petition packets are now available for those looking to run for public office in the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election.

Candidates have until mid-December to collect the signatures necessary to get their names on the ballot. The number of signatures obtained from registered voters within the district, community or township they are seeking to represent is based on the number of votes cast in the prior consolidated election.

By state statute, those running for school board must pick up their packets through the county clerk.

Jones the winner in five-way race

For months, residents of the city of Braidwood endured political bickering and back and forth, with accusations of money misspent and promises to do better.

On election day, voters in the city turned out in numbers stronger than the majority of Will County, and picked four of five new representatives for City Council.

The unofficial results of the April 2 race show Bob Jones, owner of Joneseez and a one-time Water Commissioner for the city, winning the five-way mayoral race by a margin of 38 votes.

Election packet mix up blamed on county

City officials are blaming misinformation from the county level for a mistake regarding the distribution of candidate packets for those looking to run for office during the spring election cycle.

On Nov. 13, city attorney Bryan Kopman said that packets circulated by the city for candidates were supplied with the wrong deadline and the wrong election date information. But, Kopman said, the incorrect info came directly from the county.

Election 2017 - School board candidates unopposed, but face important issues

It may be news to some, but there’s an election headed this way.

The April 4 consolidated election shows only a handful of local elected seats up for grabs, with many of the candidates in contests running unopposed.

One of those contests is four seats on the Reed-Custer School Board. Those seats are each being sought by incumbents with no challenges. The board members up for election but who will be retained are Kris Van Duyne, Devin Dransfeldt, Michael Grace, and Jesse Morris.
