Break-in at Wine Cafe in Wilmington damages video gaming terminals

The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a break-in at the Wine Cafe over the weekend.

The incident was reported to police early on Saturday, Oct. 1. The break-in took place overnight, with the burglars spending several hours inside the establishment.

“The exterior had been compromised and entry was gained through a side wall,” Police Chief Joe Mitchell said. “We are running down some leads and we will be working with the Will County State’s Attorney’s office on the investigation.”

A call to the police by an alert citizen resulted in two arrests for theft over the weekend.

The Wilmington Police Department reported that on Saturday, Aug. 6, at approximately 3:02 p.m., officers responded to a call from a business inside the Elion Logistics Park regarding theft of construction materials in progress.

According to the police report, an alert supervisor at the site observed two male subjects loading materials believed to be stolen into the bed of a red pickup and were getting ready to leave the premises.

Suspect in attempted homicide case arrested in Wilmington

A Joliet man suspected of involvement in an attempted homicide case was placed under arrest over the holiday weekend in Wilmington.

According to Wilmington Police Chief Joe Mitchell, an officer on routine patrol at the Kankakee River dam on Sunday, July 3 observed a male subject in river near the dam in violation of the city's exclusion zone ordinance.

According to the police report, the officer had the subject exit the river and subsequently sought identification for a local citation. The subject provided a fictitious name of Alavaro Martinez.

Man arrested for alleged grooming of Braidwood teen

An Elgin man is in the Will County Adult Detention facility this week after an arrest in Braidwood on charges of grooming a minor and other alleged sexual offenses.

At 12:26 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, while conducting a business check, an officer with the BPD observed a suspicious vehicle with two occupants.

According to the police report, after making contact with the vehicle, the officer conducted a brief investigation.

Two arrested following traffic stop, drug investigation in Braidwood

A two-month narcotics investigation by officers with the Braidwood Police Department led to two arrests and the seizure of methamphetamine last week.

On Dec. 27, members of the department conducted a traffic stop on Stanley D. Cochran Jr., 53, of Braidwood, which led to his arrest for driving with a revoked license.

Sex offender arrested in Braidwood for failure to register

Officers with the Braidwood Police Department took a man into custody over the weekend for failure to register as a sex offender.

According to a report by the BPD, an officer conducting a business/premise check at the Sun Motel at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 ran a law enforcement automated data system (LEADS) check on an unoccupied 2016 Hyundai Hatchback in the parking lot.

The LEADS inquiry showed the vehicle’s owner, Anthony Schargorodsky, 41, of Joliet, had failed to register as a sex offender.
