Touchdown Club hosting second Comet Bash Saturday

    The Reed-Custer Touchdown Club will hold its second annual “Comet Bash” to help raise funds for the football program.
    The Comet Bash will be held this Saturday at Jones-eez BBQ in Braidwood from 5 to 9 p.m.
    “It was fantastic last year,” said Amanda Hohenstein, Touchdown Club board member. “Obviously with it being our first year last time we didn’t know what to expect. The community, parents, friends, everbody came out and supported, and we raised quite a bit of money.”

Jaden Christian places during national Junior Olympics

    With her parents and grandfather heading down in support, Jaden Christian made the trip to Lawrence, Kansas this past week to compete in the 51st USA Track and Field Hershey National Junior Olympic Championships.
    The competition ran July 24-30, at Rock Chalk Park, home of Kansas University Track and Field team.

Reed-Custer alumni kick it back for the soccer program

    Reed-Custer held its fourth annual alumni soccer game Thursday, and while they didn’t have the numbers as past years, they still enjoyed the day.
    The Comets had about 18 players in attendance for the game, all current and past players for the boys soccer team.
    That’s down from last year’s event which had 24 players compete, including a few female players. It  didn’t help that it was blistering hot out on the field.

Jaden Christian prepares for National Junior Olympics

    Reed-Custer track star Jaden Christian had an outstanding season this past spring.
    The Comet freshman broke school records on her way to the State finals where she capped off her first year with a pair of state medals.
    Christian set a record in long jump (18’ 1”), while also setting a personal record in triple jump (37’ 2.5”).

Comets battle during 7v7, linemen challenge

    The Reed-Custer football program held its second annual 7v7 competition, and saw plenty of success along the way, giving some positive outlooks for the upcoming season.
    The friendly competition took place on Saturday, with nine other teams taking part in the 7v7 scrimmages, and 10 other teams competing in the always eventful lineman challenge.

Lady Comets putting in work over the summer

    The Reed-Custer volleyball program enjoyed a little fun this past week, as they held their middle school and high school volleyball camps.
    The week serves as a well-deserved break from all the hard work the athletes put in, including weight training, off-season practices and workouts.

Comet football continues cultivating young athletes

    While storms were threatening Thursday afternoon, the Reed-Custer football program was busy holding their final day of the youth football camp.
    The clouds were ominous, but that didn’t keep the kids from losing focus as Reed-Custer’s football coach Mark Wolf directed the young athletes through drills and games.

Comets will appreciate the comforts of home as they travel more in ‘17

    Who’s thinking football in the middle of summer? You can bet Reed-Custer coach Mark Wolf and his Comets are now that the 2017 schedule has been released.
    While Reed-Custer won’t see much change to their schedule during 2017, they will be hitting the road more often this year.
    The Comets had five home games last year, but with the switch for the new season, they will have five on the road this fall.

School Board honors outstanding track athletes

Members of the Reed-Custer Board of Education took a moment last week to recognize three outstanding members of the RCHS track team.
On June 21, freshman Jaden Christian, junior Zach Weaver, and senior Vinnie Vercelote were lauded by board members for their outstanding contributions to the track team during the spring season.

Comets finish with winning record in Braidwood Shootout

    Reed-Custer’s varsity boys basketball team has  talent coming up through the ranks.
    That was apparent this past weekend when the Comets competed in the 23rd annual Braidwood Shootout, where they finished 3-2.
    Whether it was the sure fire plays from Russell Page, Dylan Hutchison and Gavin Grace, or the young athleticism from new varsity regulars like AJ Cherry, Brendan Wiggins or Gage Stamm, the Comets are continuing to show their basketball prowess.
